Universal Prosthetic

During the 2024–2025 term, ADAPT’s original prosthetic hand team created a low‑cost, tension‑based device targeting monodactyl symbrachydactyly, deriving strength from unconventional materials such as fishing wire and paperclips. While that design proved wearable and responsive to wrist movement, this year’s goal is a complete redesign focused on full actuation and versatility for multiple user needs.

Our Focus Areas Include:

• Project A – Animal Prosthetic Upgrades: Collaborating with Safe in Austin Ranch, we’re enhancing existing prosthetics for animals with disabilities, such as: attachment points and repairability. Our goal is building at least one new device for an animal in need.
• Project B – Motor‑Driven Human Prototype: We’re leveraging 2024–2025 insights to integrate miniature motors for fully controllable digits, aiming to present a scalable, low‑cost option at CARE Research Day for evaluation by Dell Medical School specialists.
